About

Taboo: The Journal of Culture and Education draws upon a variety of contextualizing disciplines and critical theoretical ways of knowing including cultural studies, curriculum theorizing, critical race theory, political economy, feminist studies, the social foundations of education, critical pedagogy, interculturalism, queer theory, historiography, symbolic inter-actionism, literary theory, as examples. Beyond simply articulating critical perspectives we seek contributions willing to speak the unspoken and/or the irreconcilable. We hope to foster discussions across and through different disciplines including explorations into how dialogue and discourse operate throughout and within different educational times/spaces/places.

History

The journal was launched in 1995 Joe L. Kincheloe and Shirley R. Steinberg. Originally a print publication, in 2024 the journal continues in an online and open access format to ensure widest possible distribution and the free exchange of intellectual capital among its readership.
