(March 20, 2024) Taboo: The Journal of Culture and Education is currently accepting submissions for an upcoming issue. We invite scholars, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to contribute articles that explore various aspects of civics, citizenship, civic engagement, and pieces dedicated to advancing scholarly understanding of democracy in theory and practice.
Scope
Theme: Understanding Democracy in Theory and Practice
This edition of the journal aims to publish original research, theoretical perspectives, case studies, and practical insights related to civic engagement and democracy in diverse contexts. We welcome submissions on topics including, but not limited to:
- Strategies for supporting and enhancing civics and democracy
- Civic education and its impact on democratic participation
- Innovative approaches to fostering civic engagement among youth
- Community organizing and grassroots activism
- Civil society and its role in governance and democracy
- Challenges and opportunities for inclusive civic engagement
- Democratic theory and its evolution
- Challenges to democratic governance
- Electoral processes and political participation
- Civil liberties, human rights, and democracy
- Media, information, and democracy
- Populism, authoritarianism, and threats to democracy
- Innovations in democratic governance and citizen engagement
- Involving historically excluded people in civic engagement and democracy
Submission Guidelines
- Manuscripts should be original and not under consideration by any other publication.
- Articles should be between 3,000 to 8,000 words, excluding references and appendices.
- Submissions must follow the journal’s formatting and referencing guidelines, available onour website.
- All submissions will undergo double-blind peer review by experts in the field.
- Important Dates:
- Submission Deadline: June 1, 2024
- Notification of Acceptance: August 1, 2024
- Publication of Issue: Fall 2024
